Jack Long grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002. Painting in oils on wood, his work shares a dreamlike palette with the Northern Renaissance painters Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Hieronymus Bosch . His paintings also draw heavily upon the tradition of storytelling, utilizing motifs and imagery found in mythology and fairytales.
Jack says "I feel like people think of their lives in this way, relating moments in their lives to fairytales or mythology. My paintings have grown out of this; they reveal the deeply rooted patterns of storytelling, mythology and mysticism in our lives."
After living in Providence, RI for many years, Jack recently moved to Los Angeles, CA. Aside from his fine art work, he is also at work on a Children's Book project with his brother Rob.
